According to a report on Monday by the New York Post, the media executive announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a former police chaplain.

The 92-year-old media mogul said he hopes the engagement would be his last, adding that he dreads falling in love.

“I dreaded falling in love. But I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy,” he said.

“We’re both looking forward to spending the second half of our lives together.”

Murdoch and Smith, aged 66, met in September, during an event at his vineyard in California.

He then proposed to Smith on St Patrick’s Day.

Smith, who is a widow, was married to Chester Smith, a country singer and broadcast executive.

“For us both it’s a gift from God. We met last September,” she also told the New York Post.

“I’m a widow of 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman… So I speak Rupert’s language. We share the same beliefs.”

The wedding will take place in late summer while the lovebirds plan to spend their time between California, Montana, New York, and the UK.

Last year, the media tycoon parted ways with Jerry Hall, his fourth wife.

He had previously been married to Patricia Booker, an Australian flight attendant; Anna Mann, a Scottish-born journalist; and Wendi Deng a Chinese-born entrepreneur.

Murdoch has six children from his first three marriages.

Lachlan, one of his children, serves as chief executive of Fox and executive co-chair of News Corp.
