The music star, in a chat with Chude Jideonwo, media entrepreneur, said he ventured into music “by accident”.

He said he had always loved music and even joined his church choir at a young age.

Mayorkun said music, for him at the time, was just a hobby and nothing more.

He said he was working at a bank when he impulsively posted a video of himself doing a cover of Davido’s song.

He said Davido was impressed, retweeted the video, and reached out to sign him to DMW, his record label.

“I did music then but not with any mindset of this is what I’m going to do in the future. I was just doing church music,” Mayorkun said.

“Music is very expensive. Even at that, I didn’t have money for studio sessions, all those things were too expensive. So it was just me and my phone.

“So when I was having problems in the bank, something just told me to post this freestyle video on Twitter and delete it later.

“Davido retweeted it, he followed me and asked me to send him my WhatsApp line. Then I sent like the wrong number first but eventually, we signed the deal in 2016.”

Mayorkun’s career strides have seen him scoop several awards.
