‘The Mayor of Lagos’, a first-time project by Mayorkun, has debuted on the Billboard world albums chart.
The Afrobeats/Afropop album is number 15 on the chart topped by EXO.
Mayorkun, born Adewale Mayowa, released his debut solo album on November 16.
The ‘Mama’ singer is signed to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), a record label owned by Afrobeats superstar, David ‘Davido’ Adeleke.
The album, which was executively produced by Davido, contains 15 tracks.
It features popular names like D’banj, Davido, Patoranking, Sarkodie and members of the DMW record label.
Prior to the release of ‘The Mayor of Lagos’, Mayorkun had put out a number of hit singles including his debut effort, ‘Eleko’.
Three previously released songs, ‘Bobo’, ‘Che Che’ and ‘Mama’, are also included in the album.
The singer on Friday took to Instagram to acknowledge the feat of making the world albums chart.
He wrote: “The Mayor of Lagos made it to the Billboard world album chart. My first project ever made is debut at #15. Too blessed.”
Mayorkun will headline his concert, which bears the same name as the album, on December 14, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.
