May D, the Nigerian Afropop singer, has revealed details of his past experiences with Psquare and Davido.
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the singer disclosed why he declined to sign a contract with Square Records, a music label owned by the R&B duo Psquare.
May D claimed he lived in Psquare’s boys’ quarter while working on music projects with the twin brothers.
He said he felt that his living conditions at the duo’s apartment did not show signs of growth, leading him to reject their contract offer.
The singer also said he believed he could have been given a room or a flat instead of boys’ quarter.
“What I am saying is if I get any artiste wey don blow now I get many things wey I go set for the artiste. It may not have to be a house,” he said.
“For example, now they could give me a room in the empty section of their house. I did not care where I was staying in the boy’s quarters. It was where I was going that I had in my mind. All that happened, will I stay in boys’ quarters and sign a contract?
“It was not too much for me to have a flat. I started thinking about my life. People come to the house and ask me questions.”
May D also recalled an encounter with Davido, who had asked to stay with him while he was running away from his dad and couldn’t stay in any hotels.
He said when Davido saw his living conditions, he was shocked and declined to stay with him.
“You know the time David was running from his dad. He asked me, ‘How far, guy? Be like say na your house I stay because my dad has sanctioned all the hotels in Nigeria’. I told him let’s go to Psquare’s house,” he said.
“You can stay in my room. When David reached my room, he said, ‘May D, this is where you stay for real?’ He said, ‘I can’t stay here’. If I had a room, it would have been cooler.”
