The musician was speaking during his feature on the latest episode of a podcast hosted by Sina Rambo and Big J.

The podcast touched on Wizkid’s loss in the 2022 Grammy.

For the 2022 Grammys, Wizkid was nominated for the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category for ‘Essence’, his collaboration with Tems.

His album ‘Made In Lagos’ was also nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category.

However, he lost both categories to Angelique Kidjo, the Beninese singer, and Arooj Aftab, a Pakistani vocalist.

May D argued that Wizkid deserved a Grammy, just as Burna Boy won the award for his ‘Twice As Tall’ album.

He argued in defence of what he described as the “intellectual creativity” Wizkid put into ‘Made In Lagos’.

“Burnaboy who won Grammy with his album, it was written for him. I’m sure nobody wrote that Tems song for her neither was Wizkid’s verse written for him,” May D said.

One of the hosts countered that Wizkid lost the award because the song used a “programmed beat”.

They compared ‘Made in Lagos’ to Burna Boy’s ‘Twice as Tall’ to reiterate that Wizkid lost because of the beat.

However, May D replied contrarily.

He said Burna Boy’s win was deserving just as Wizkid deserves an award.

“Burna Boy’s album was 100 percent, he deserves it. Burna deserves the Grammy just as Wizkid deserves a Grammy right now,” the singer said.
