Don Jazzy, the music producer and founder of Mavin Records, has commemorated the 12th anniversary of his record label.
Founded in 2012, the record label has been instrumental in launching the careers of Afrobeats stars like Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Rema, and Ladipoe.
In a recent post via Instagram, Don Jazzy shared a nostalgic video chronicling the label’s journey — from its humble beginnings to its sold-out concerts.
The music producer also expressed gratitude to the persons who contributed to Mavin’s success.
Text woven throughout the video reads, “This dynasty started 12 years ago with a dream to take Afrobeats worldwide. 12 years of music, 12 years of impact, 12 years of influence, 12 years of greatness, 12 years of eminence, 12 years of significance, 12 years of creativity, 12 years of Mavin. Thank you for 12 years of support”.
The celebration comes on the heels of Universal Music Group‘s acquisition of a majority stake in Mavin Records earlier this year.
Universal, in a statement, hailed the record label as a “driving force behind many of the continent’s Afrobeats artistes”.
It said Mavin will maintain its autonomy over its strategy and future talent development, adding that Don Jazzy and Tega Oghenejobo will continue to lead the company.
Mavin Records has received numerous accolades, including the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Record Label in 2013 and 2014.
