Marcus Lamb, the top US televangelist and president of Daystar Television Network, the Christian-based channel, has passed away at 64.

His family announced his demise in a statement shared via the TV network’s social media pages on Tuesday.

They, however, did not reveal what led to his death.

“It’s with a heavy heart we announce that Marcus Lamb, president and founder of Daystar Television Network, went home to be with the Lord this morning,” the statement read.

“The family asks that their privacy be respected as they grieve this difficult loss. Please continue to lift them up in prayer.”

Lamb, who is the co-founder of Daystar — said to be the second-largest Christian-based television network in the world — was renowned for his stance against the COVID-19 vaccine.

Alongside Joni Lamb, his wife, the controversial cleric used his channel to preach against vaccination, arguing that it violates people’s rights and portends danger to their safety.

Until his death, Lamb was known to have invited a number of self-acclaimed medical rights advocates and legal experts to programmes on his network to speak against the vaccine.

In a newsletter issued in February and titled ‘Vaccines: The Unauthorised Truth’, his channel alleged that the COVID-19 vaccine was an attempt by the pharmaceutical industry to exploit people.

His network and The American Family Association, the nonprofit Christian organisation, had earlier challenged President Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate which demands that large companies should make the COVID-19 vaccine compulsory for their employees.

In the suit, they had argued that the directive was “a sin against God’s holy word.”

Foxtel, an Australian pay television company, had in October reportedly launched a review into the network’s programmes after it received complaints about the channel’s teachings against vaccination.

Lamb’s death also comes a few days after rumours claimed that he was diagnosed with COVID-19.
