Laycon, the rapper and former BBNaija winner, has poured out his resentment at The Headies for not making its nomination list for this year’s award.

The organisers of the award announced the nominees for this year’s edition on Tuesday.

While a plethora of music heavyweights like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, and Burna Boy got several nominations, other fast-rising artistes like Ayra Starr, Portable, and Ckay among others also made the list.

The reality star, who has put out a number of songs since leaving the BBNaija show in 2020 on a high note, was obviously missing from the list.

In a flurry of tweets on Wednesday, Laycon lamented that “emotion can set in” if someone works hard on his music career and thereafter doesn’t get recognition for their work.

“I have never been a fan of judging people with the adjective ‘BEST’. However, I see awards as a compliment; something to tell you, ‘Hey! We see everything you’ve done and we think you should get this for your efforts’,” he wrote.

“This doesn’t mean every other person didn’t put in work! Even TV stations, radio stations, OAPs etc. get ‘awards’ for their efforts, which doesn’t take away from the work every media body or personnel put into growing the industry, to be honest.

“But when you work hard and you feel like you don’t get recognition for your work, your emotions set in.”

The rapper also wondered why “A lot of people think I don’t deserve half of what I have and what I’m getting, so I’ve had to do double of whatever it is you’re supposed to do in this industry.”
