Layi Wasabi, the Nigerian skit maker and content creator, says he does not believe in the “concept of having a girlfriend”.
Speaking on Is This Seat Taken podcast, Layi said he begins any relationship with “courtship”.
He also said he prefers the term “partnership”, adding that he has to “see a wife” in the lady from the start of their relationship.
“I do not believe in the concept of a girlfriend. I believe in partnership. I do not believe in that phase of girlfriends. I start with courtship. I have to see the wife in the person from the beginning,” he said.
Born Isaac Ayomide Olayiwola, Layi started his comedy career as a teenager.
Wasabi is known for blending Nigerians’ societal issues and everyday challenges into content.
His craft has fetched him numerous awards. He also clinched the ‘Best Digital Content’ category at the 2024 AMVCA.
In August 2023, he revealed that growing up in Osogbo, the capital of Osun state, influenced the kind of content he creates.
“Osogbo is a quiet city that allows your thought to wander and that was basically what made me who I am. The people I imitate in the skits are people I have seen in Osogbo,” the skit maker said.
