The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has approved an increase in tuition.
The decision was made known in an internal memorandum signed by JA Agboola, LAUTECH’s council secretary.
According to the release, the new fee structure which will take effect from the 2018/2019 academic session will see an increase from N200,000 to N300,000, depending on the faculty.
Fees for medical, nursing and biomedical students will now be N300,000, engineering students will pay N250,000, while students of the faculties of basic medical sciences, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, and pure and applied sciences will pay N200,000.
According to the management, the decision to increase the fees was to make it “in consonance with the present financial realities the university was facing”.
The management also said it will “work out modalities for scholarship schemes to support the indigent students”.
The hike in fees has caused a stir among the student body who are not pleased with the change.
Some of the students are gearing to stage protests to oppose the increment.
