The Lagos state government has shut Cubana nightclub in Ikeja GRA, and other facilities for flouting the newly-imposed COVID-19 protocols.

Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor, broke the news in a tweet on Sunday.

Operatives of the Lagos safety commission and the state police command stormed the club on Saturday night and sealed off the facility.

According to him, Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos commissioner of police, personally led the team to the facility to disperse club-goers out of the building.

“VIDEO: Lagos State Commissioner of@PoliceNG CP Odumosu personally led a team that dispersed club attendees before shutting down Cubana, Ikeja GRA for failing to comply with #COVID19 guidelines,” he wrote.

Gawat Jubril, senior special assistant to Sanwo-Olu on new media, who also confirmed the development, said the security operatives sealed off The Corner, alongside Admiralty Way, Lekki, over a similar offence.

“Update: The Corner … Admiralty Way Lekki 1 … SEALED by the Lagos State Safety Commission (@safety_lasg) … More to come,” he wrote in a Twitter thread.

The development comes hours after Sanwo-Olu banned street parties and carnivals over the surge in COVID-19 cases.

In a statement on Friday, the governor had said: “Concerts, carnivals and street parties are banned in Lagos State until further notice. Night Clubs have not been allowed to open yet. All Night Clubs in Lagos must immediately shut down, until further notice.”
