Kunle Afolayan, ‘October 1’ director, will showcase a collection from his Kunle’s Kembe line at the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN).
Kembe, a traditional baggy trousers, has enjoyed a rejuvenation of sorts after Afolayan made it his signature outfit.
Since he became the unofficial Kembe ambassador, the trousers which are popular among the Yoruba have been courted by a ton of his celebrity friends.
Akinwumi Ambode, Lagos state governor, recently took delivery of his own pair of Kunle’s Kembe.
Owing to the wide acceptance and patronage, the movie director is now plunging into the world of fashion with his company, Ire Clothing
“It is one of the things about our heritage that has captured the pop culture. The motive is trado-modern, and I am glad to be promoting it,” Guardian quoted him as saying.
“This attire is one of the products that I intend to also use to promote Lagos. It is one of the souvenirs that tourists will have to take away from here subsequently.
“And I must add that all fabrics are locally sourced and so are the hands used in piecing them together. It is hundred percent Nigerian.
Afolayan will showcase alongside 80 fashion designers from Africa and Europe at the fifth edition of the Africa Fashion Week Nigeria.
The event will hold between September 15 and 16 at the Lagoon Restaurant on Victoria Island in Lagos.
