Ayinla Kollington, the iconic Fuji singer, has argued that fellow musician Salawa Abeni remains his wife, despite their separation decades ago.
The music stars got married in 1986 and had three children together before parting ways in 1994.
However, in a recent interview on Teju Babyface show, Ayinla, 75, insisted that Abeni, 64, “is still my wife until the end of life”.
He humorously referred to her current husband as merely “borrowing” her, emphasizing that she has no children with him, unlike the three they share together.
“She is still my wife. The man she is with is just borrowing her from me, she still belongs to me. Of course, the man she is with is just loaning her because she has no kids for him, whereas she has three adult kids with me,” he said.
Born Abdulrasaq Kolawole Ilori, Ayinla is regarded as one of the pioneers of the Fuji genre.
He is also called Baba Alatika, Kebe-n-Kwara, and Baba Alagbado.
Ayinla’s iconic songs include ‘Ori Mi Ma Je Ntosi’, ‘Ebami Dupe’, ‘Emi Ni O Jo’, and ‘Nigeria Ko le Ku’.
Abeni, on the other hand, began her career in 1976 when she released ‘Late General Muritala Ramat Mohammed’, her debut album.
In 2024, she unveiled Rasheed Adahunse as her third husband.
