Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor, has declared his intention to run for the office of governor of Enugu state.
Okonkwo says he has the backing of Sullivan Chime, former governor of the state, in his bid to seek the elective position.
The actor made the announcement on Instagram, sharing photos of himself alongside other APC party members at a function where he made his declaration to run for office.
“Just declared my intention to contest for the governorship candidate of APC in Enugu state,” he wrote.
“It was heartwarming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu state, His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory.”
The ‘Living in Bondage’ actor said if elected, he would use his position to develop the Nigerian film industry known as Nollywood.
He wrote: “It’s time for Nollywood to produce an executive to fulfill our Nollywood dreams.”
In another post, Okonkwo said the “entire APC structure” in the state attended his declaration to run for office.
Apart from being an actor, Okonkwo is also a movie producer, lawyer, and evangelist.
