Kenneth Okonkwo, a veteran Nollywood actor, says he will be the next governor of Enugu state.
Okonkwo, who is also a movie producer, evangelist and lawyer, made the statement on Wednesday as he released his campaign banners ahead of the 2019 elections.
The ‘Living in Bondage’ star is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party.
“Without God I can do nothing but with Him I can do all things because He strengthens me,” the actor wrote on Instagram.
“Join the wining team. By the grace of God, I am the next Governor of Enugu State.”
In May, Okonkwo declared his intention to contest the Enugu governorship election.
At the time, the actor said he has the backing of Sullivan Chime, former governor of the state, in his bid to lead Enugu.
Okonkwo said if elected, he would use his position to develop the Nigerian film industry known as Nollywood.
As it stands, the actor will first have to win the primary ticket of Enugu APC before he can be eligible to contest the governorship election.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, is the incumbent governor of Enugu. He is in his first term in office and is likely to seek re-election.
