Kano halves registration fees for indigenes at state tertiary institutions

Kano state government has slashed registration fees by 50% for all indigenes studying across all state-owned tertiary institutions.

Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, commissioner for higher education, spoke during a press briefing in the state capital.

Kofarmata said the decision was taken during a meeting with heads of tertiary institutions on Monday.

He said Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor, said the cut would cushion the economic impact of the fuel subsidy removal and inflation on students and their parents.

The commissioner said all indigenes of Kano state studying “regular courses” in the following institutions are to enjoy the total relief of a 50 percent reduction in the registration fee in the 2023/2024 academic session.

This includes Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil; Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano; Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kumbotso; Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies.

Others are Kano State Polytechnic, Audu Bako College of Agriculture in Dambatta, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Advanced and Remedial Studies, Tudun Wada and Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies.

The commissioner for higher education stressed that the governor asks that beneficiaries of the government’s gesture reciprocate by being more dedicated and committed to their studies for the development of the state.
