Hauwa Maina, Kannywood actress, has passed away after a brief illness.

Maina, 48, died in a hospital in Kano state on Wednesday night.
The news of her passing was confirmed by fellow actor Ali Nuhu who posted a tribute to the ‘Queen Amina’ star on his Instagram page.
The actress will be buried in Kaduna on Thursday according to Islamic rites. She is survived by two children.

She began her acting career in 1998 and featured in more than 100 movies including Nollywood soap operas. One of her famous roles was as Queen Amina of Zazzau.
Maina won many awards including best actress at SIM Awards (2010), Best Afro-Nollywood Award, London (2007).
She was trained as a movie director in the US.
