Kanayo O Kanayo, the actor-turned-lawyer, has weighed into the controversial issue of sex-for-role in the country’s movie landscape.
In recent times, the alleged prevalence of the practice in Nollywood has continued to dominate discussions on social media.
But in an Instagram post on Wednesday, the actor urged his followers to stop believing such claims, arguing that most talks about sex-for-role are usually false.
The film star also claimed that a number of up-and-coming actresses do not work hard to earn roles in Nollywood.
“When you hear of sex for roles in Nollywood, please do not believe all you are told. Many of the girls are not working hard to live up to the roles they are cast for. Quite a shame,” he wrote.

Several movie stars have also contributed to the discussion in the past.
Last year, Bukunmi Oluwasina argued that the issue of sex-for-role in Nollywood can’t be tackled when aspiring movie stars have the mindset of soliciting favour through illicit means.
“One day, we’re going to have a conversation about some people who came into the industry with the aim of having the opportunity to meet, be friends with or date, sleep with or even marry a celebrity,” she had said.
In September 2021, Odunlade Adekola was accused of demanding sex from females craving a role in his movies. He, however, dismissed the allegations.
