The Hollywood actor had been embroiled in a protracted defamation case with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

A film titled ‘La Favourite’ is set to become Depp’s first film project since his ex’s domestic violence accusations.

Bloomberg reports that Netflix signed a deal to stream ‘La Favourite’ in France 15 months after its theatre release.

The movie, however, is not a Netflix original, hence its production is not being funded by the streaming platform.

It is understood that the project, directed by Maiwenn Le Besco, will shoot for over three months this summer.

‘La Favorite’ will be following after Depp’s appearance in ‘Minamata’, a 2020 film by the American Andrew Levitas.

Depp’s lawsuit against Heard had gone to a trial on April 11 and ended on June 1 with the actor’s victory.

He had sued Heard for defamation, accusing her of “name-calling” that often escalated into physical violence.

The actor said a 2018 domestic violence piece written by Heard in The Washington Post implied he was abusive.

Heard didn’t name the actor but Depp’s lawyers said her allegations made it difficult for him to land acting roles.
