A staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who allegedly stole the phone number used to set up a 15-year-old girl’s profile while registering for the UTME has reportedly been arrested.
Iphie Abike, the mother of the female student, earlier revealed that she registered her daughter for this year’s UTME using her mobile number.
She also alleged that a staff of the exam body retrieved her number and tried to send messages to her underage daughter.
Abike shared details of her conversation with the “22-year-old” JAMB staff, who she claimed took her number because “he could not help himself”.
The woman also tackled JAMB over the alleged breach of her daughter’s data protection rights.
Reacting to Abike’s post via X, JAMB assured that “the culprit and his accomplices will be decisively brought to book”.
“The Board as a regulatory agency does not condone any form of unwholesome practice that would bring its integrity to disrepute,” the exam body wrote.
But in an update, Abike revealed that the suspect has been arrested. She also appreciated JAMB for their swift response.
“UPDATE!!!! The guy has been arrested. Him and his accomplice, the guy that registered my child are currently in custody! Thanks to @JAMBHQ for your swift response. I’m grateful!” she wrote.
