Iyanya Mbuk, the R&B singer, has addressed the age long rumours surrounding his marital status.
In a chat with HipTV on Monday, the ‘Kukere’ crooner revealed that he’s not married.
In the past years, several reports had claimed that the singer was involved in a secret marriage in his native Cross Rivers state.
But while speaking on the rumours for the first time, Iyanya said that he is single and searching for a wife.
“I’m not married. I’m single and searching for a wife, not a girlfriend,” he said.
Iyanya was, earlier this month, appointed the senior special assistant (SSA) on tourism and entertainment to Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River state.
The musician also spoke on what he intended to achieve with the new political position.
“What that means is that I have to use all that I have to bring and shine some light to make sure that the entertainment and tourism are doing well. This is my obligation,” he said.
The Afropop singer hit the limelight after winning the second edition of MTN Project Fame, a music talent show, in 2008.
He had started his music career in the R&B genre, where he thrived with ‘Love Truly’ and ‘Iyanya’, two hit songs on ‘My Story’, his 2009 album.
Following the underwhelming performance of the aforementioned singles and the lack of commercial acceptability, Iyanya subsequently switched to Afropop.
After a stint with MMMG, a record label he co-founded with Ubi Franklin, Iyanya left the music label to launch his own in 2016.
However, the singer returned to the staple of MMMG last week, reuniting with Franklin after five years.
