‘I’ve not yet been sued’ — Brymo taunts 2Baba over defamation suit

Olawale Ashimi, Nigerian singer better known as Brymo, has taunted 2Baba, Afrobeats star, over his resolve to sue him for alleged defamation.

On October 5, the 35-year-old Okokomaiko-born singer had in a lengthy rant claimed that 2Baba “falsely” accused him of sleeping with his wife.

Brymo also alleged that he was attacked by men loyal to the Afrobeats star over reasons not precisely established.

In his reaction, 2Baba, through his lawyers, had described Brymo’s claims as false and threatened to seek N1 billion in damages.

2Baba had also vowed that he would go to court should Brymo fail to recant his statement and apologise in 48 hours — beginning from October 7.

But in a follow-up statement after about one week, Brymo reminded 2Baba that he had yet to sue him as threatened.

“Let it be public knowledge that I have received no documents of any kind pointing to my being sued by Mr. Idibia. Or his handlers or attorneys,” Brymo wrote on Thursday.

“The impunity with which he lied to all of society in the letter and public statement should rightly pose a setback.”

Now Muzik, a record label and management of 2Baba, had earlier called on Brymo to be ready to substantiate his allegations against its client in court.

“What is unacceptable is making false and defamatory statements. Nothing can be farther from the truth than Brymo’s statements,” it wrote in a statement.

“Those who know [2Baba] will struggle to situate him in the spurious scenarios in the incredulous narrative Brymo has contrived.

“Brymo will have an opportunity to substantiate his claims with proof in court. If he fails to do that, the law will take its course, fully. 2Baba will not dissipate energy engaging Brymo in media exchanges.”
