The family of Bimbo, late wife of IVD, has accused the celebrity car dealer and the police of collaborating to stall the probe into their daughter’s death.
IVD has been enmeshed in a series of allegations since his wife passed away in October.
Mama Jazz, the sister to his wife, had accused the Lagos-based businessman of killing her.
In a statement on Monday, Bimbo’s family accused the police of “cover-up, intimidation and attempt to force the family into an out-of-court settlement with IVD”.
The family also alleged that the police have “changed Ogbonna’s charges from manslaughter to negligence so as to make it easily bailable”.
It further alleged that IVD has the backing of an undisclosed commissioner of police referred to as his “godfather”.
The family also claimed Comfort Martins, its matriarch, was recently arrested following a petition by IVD that she stole his $20,000 when she came to his house.
It alleged that the police arrested Wisdom Martins, its spokesperson, alongside Comfort.
Speaking on the development, Wisdom described the allegations against the family’s matriarch as “ridiculous and laughable”.
“It was all trumped up charges to intimidate the family and change the narrative,” he said.
The statement said since Comfort and Wisdom were released, the family has allegedly been put under immense pressure to accept an out-of-court settlement.
It added that the police fixed Wednesday for the family to meet with Ogbonna’s family to reach an agreement and resolve the matter.
“They are claiming that for the sake of the children, we should settle out of court and he would open an account for the children’s upkeep and we should allow him to have access to the children. Someone who watched our daughter die and even did a video recording when she was burning in pains and ran away after,” the statement reads.
“This is not only ridiculous but so unfortunate. We the Martins family want justice to run its course and if Ogbonna is culpable in our daughter’s death, he should face the penalty.”
The Lagos police command had earlier arrested IVD.
