Meghan Markle, the duchess of Sussex, gave birth to a baby boy on Monday with her husband, Prince William, by her side.

In a statement released on Monday, Buckingham Palace said: “The Duchess went into labour in the early hours of this morning. The Duke of Sussex was by Her Royal Highnesses’ side. An announcement will be made soon.”

The baby weighed seven pounds and six ounces, about 3.3kg.

The baby, which is understood to be a week overdue, is going to be seventh-in-line to the throne.

Markle, the 37-year-old American actress before marrying Prince Harry.

She was reported to have chosen a female-led medical team for her delivery alongside her mother, Doria Ragland.
