Israel Adesanya, the Nigerian-New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, has criticised Lagos-based women, labeling them “unfriendly”.
In a now-viral video, Adesanya, who arrived in Lagos with his family on August 21, registered his observations about women’s “inhospitable behaviour” in Lagos.
The 35-year-old professional fighter also advised Lagos women to be more genuine and approachable.
“Lagos girls are doing shakara that even the majority of them are prostitutes; they should just be nice and reply hi,” Adesanya said.

His comment has, however, ignited a wave of mixed reactions on social media platforms, especially X.

Israel Adesanya calling Nigerian women names because they didn’t bow to his fame is so horrible.
How many Nigerian women watch boxing?
Even if they do, it’s so much of a low self-esteem to expect every woman to bow to your glory.AdvertisementHe should fix himself.

If Israel Adesanya wants free sex he’d probably better off getting it from Nigerian men: they are the ones who watch UFC

Adesanya’s visit to Nigeria comes a few days after losing his UFC middleweight title fight against South Africa’s Dricus du Plessis.
He lost his chance to regain the title, tapping out in submission with his neck locked in a rear-naked choke by Du Plessis in the fourth round of the fight.
The two-time UFC champion was born in Lagos, but his family migrated to New Zealand shortly after his early childhood.
