Fibroids are non-cancerous yet abnormal growths that can develop in a woman’s uterus during her childbearing years.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the 30-year-old movie star explained that when was diagnosed with the disease, her first gynecologist advised her to get married if she was not ready to remove it.

Dima-Okojie noted that by March 2020, she noticed that the bulge on her lower belly had gotten bigger. She said this time around, her new gynecologist instructed her to take out the fibroid.

“I found out I had fibroids in 2017, I remember freaking out so much. The first gynecologist I saw said if it wasn’t really bordering me he would advice I leave it alone but that I had better go and quickly get married (no jokes),” she wrote.

The movie star said the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, however, disrupted her plan for surgery at the time.

This, she explained, made her resort to other alternative means including herbs and clean diet.

“Anyways, fast forward to March 2020, the bulge on my lower belly had gotten bigger & my new gynecologist advised I take out the fibroids. Then COVID-19 happened and we had to put the surgery on hold. In the meantime I tried other things… herbs, clean diet, exercise…,” she added.

Dima-Okojie said after the initial delay, she underwent a successful surgery in November and has been recuperating since then.

“I had the surgery, it was successful and I’m now healing slowly but surely,” she added.

She also appreciated God, family, friends, and others who stood by her during her battle with the disease.

The actress said she decided to share her experience as a way of encouraging others also battling fibroid.

“To the women out there dealing with fibroids. I know what a lonely road it can be.. not to talk of the pain and discomfort and then there are the ignorant ‘congrats on your pregnancy’ comments to deal with.”
