Oladapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo, a singer and entrepreneur, says he’s innocent of the rape allegation against him by Seyitan Babatayo, a Twitter user, until he is proven guilty.
The music superstar has been in the news ever since Seyitan alleged that he raped her in December 2018.
‘The Fall in Love’ crooner had in a letter through Mike Ozekhome, his lawyer, dismissed the allegation, describing it as a “slap on his marriage”.
He had also, among other things, asked his accuser to pay the sum of N100 million as well as tender a public apology to be published in four national dailies.
Amid the controversies that trailed the scandal, Seyitan deleted the tweets wherein she made the allegations against the singer.
The development had further ignited controversies on social media with some alleging that she took the action due to undue pressure from D’banj.
Don Jazzy, among many others however, weighed into the matter, insisting that the truth would eventually emerge after ongoing investigations into the matter is completed.
But on Monday, D’banj called out those already insinuating that he’s guilty of the allegation when no court of competent jurisdiction has pronounced such.
“Innocent until proven guilty…., stop social media trial #Say no to rape and human rights violation,” he wrote in a terse post alongside a video where he can be seen digging at his critics.
Over 20,000 people have signed a petition to the United Nations seeking the singer’s removal as youth ambassador.
The petition against D’banj also comes about the same time when Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), ordered a probe into the rape allegation against him.
