The abduction occurred on Tuesday evening at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in the Oke Isegun area of Eruku, a boundary town with Kogi state.

According to reports, more than five armed bandits raided the building, ransacking the church and seizing worshippers’ belongings before abducting an unconfirmed number of congregants.

Reacting on her X page, Akindele described being shocked and devastated by the incident.

The box-office record-breaking actress said she wept after watching a viral livestream video of the attack.

“Woke up to see a livestream video of people being attacked inside a church in Kwara. 😭😭 This is sad and disturbing. I wept seeing that old woman who couldn’t walk well running for safety,” she wrote.

In a statement, the Kwara state police command confirmed an “attempted bandit attack” in Eruku.

Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi stated that operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, responded to the scene, prompting the assailants to flee into a nearby bush.

The command acknowledged that three persons, including a vigilante, were injured in the incident but did not confirm the number of those abducted.

The Kwara church attack is the latest in a series of security breaches, coming less than 48 hours after bandits raided the Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi, and abducted 25 schoolgirls.

The escalating crisis has prompted public figures, including rapper Falz, to call on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take decisive action.

President Tinubu has since directed the police to track down the perpetrators of the Kwara church attack.
