Melissa Jefferson, the US pop star and singer better known as Lizzo, says she is “quitting” because she is fed up with trolls bullying her over her looks.
In an Instagram post on Friday, the ‘About Damn Time’ hitmaker said she was tired of being “bullied and ridiculed” online.
She said all she ever wants is to “make people happy with my music” but it seems the world “does not want me in it”.
The 35-year-old, however, did not state if her rant meant she was leaving the music industry or social media.
“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it,” she wrote.
“But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views, being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.
“My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this shit. I QUIT.”
Lizzo ventured into music as a child and trained as a flutist from age 10. She studied classical music in college.
She gained fame after the release of ‘Cuz I Love You’, her 2019 studio album.
She has earned a plethora of nominations and awards for her craft.
