Bolatito Idakula, wife of Bez Idakula, Nigerian alternative singer, has narrated how she battled shame and guilt for years after she had two abortions.
The counselor cum author brought the revelation to light in a Twitter thread on Sunday to commemorate this year’s Easter celebration.
Bolatito said she had the abortions at the time because she was not ready for a baby, adding that she thought that was the only option available to her then.
The daughter of Rasheed Ladoja, ex-governor of Oyo state, said the decision, however, left her unsettled for years even after she tied the knot.
The former banker recalled that when she lost her first child in 2015, she thought the experience was God’s way of punishing her for having abortions.
Bolatito said she eventually got rid of the guilt when she came to terms with the salvation she had in Christ.
She called on others battling similar experiences to stop condemning themselves for their past, adding that such was the reason Jesus Christ died and resurrected.
It almost crippled me when I found myself fighting for the life of my daughter.
I couldn’t stop thinking: “I deserve this punishment. Now I’m ready, and God is finally ready to get me back”.
But then I didn’t understand the salvation and righteousness that I have in Christ.— Tito Idakula (@titoidakula) April 4, 2021
“I’ve had two abortions. I was scared and wasn’t ready. I took the only options I thought were available to me at the time. And even in this age of pro choice, I am not personally proud of the choices I made. And I lived in shame and guilt for years,” she wrote.

“If you are still burdened by the spirit of condemnation, open yourself to the gift of life from Christ. Accept his salvation today. Invite him into your heart. Release it all to him. He loves you so much, he died for you. Happy Easter!”
Bolatito and the singer got married in 2014 and the union has been blessed with three children.
