Huawei, Chinese telecommunication firm, has launched Kirin 990 chipset, a new 5G-integrated smartphone chip, it described as the “most powerful” in the world.

The Kirin 990 chipset was announced on Friday on stage at the annual Berlin tech conference IFA, a tech show reputed as one of Europe’s biggest.

Huawei described the Kirin 990 chipset as the first all-in-one 5G system on a chip. It added that it is a superior alternative from Qualcomm and Samsung.

It is believed that unlike the chips created by Qualcomm and Samsung, the processor and the modem are integrated into the Kirin 990 which means it is smaller, faster, and more powerful than any other 5G chip on the market.

“It’s the world’s most powerful 5G system on a chip. It’s the world’s most powerful 5G modem,” Richard Yu, head of Huawei’s consumer business group, said.

The Chinese tech giant also added noise cancellation feature to the third-generation of its FreeBuds, a pair of wireless earbuds modeled after Apple’s widely used AirPods.

The FreeBuds, which is available in either black or white, includes four hours of battery life in the earbuds themselves and comes with a circular puck-shaped charging case that expands their total listening time to 20 hours.

During the third day of the event, the Chinese multinational technology brand also claimed that FreeBuds 3 is the world’s first noise-canceling headphones with an open-fit design that works such that the earbuds don’t create a sealed physical barrier between the ear canal and the aura.

The brand also introduced a new chip, comparable to Apple’s H1, designed to offer lower latency and power consumption — compared to other Bluetooth chips — and acclaimed as the first to support the Bluetooth 5.1 standard.

IFA, reputed to be one of the most significant spots on the calendar for product launches, held its 2019 edition in Berlin, Germany, over the first few days of September.

The show, which started in 1924 as a radio convention, is now hosted in Messe Berlin complex and is open to the public, unlike other renowned tech shows.
