When Lamine Yamal casually grooved to a forgotten Afrobeats track on TikTok, the 17-year-old Barcelona star unknowingly became the catalyst for one of 2025’s most unexpected music revivals.

Last month, the Spanish football sensation, who boasts over 29 million followers on TikTok, took to the platform to share a video of himself alongside two teammates dancing to Nigerian artiste Skales’ 2015 hit ‘Shake Body’.

Since its upload, the video has amassed a staggering 12.4 million views and raked in over 85,000 likes on TikTok.

When Skales discovered Yamal’s post, the singer screenshotted the teen’s Spotify playlist, revealing that ‘Shake Body’ was among the footballer’s selected tracks and tweeted on X.

In the caption, the Nigerian artiste declared his newfound allegiance to Yamal’s club FC Barcelona.

“Lord knows I’m a full Barca fan now,” he wrote.

The viral moment has breathed new life into the decade-old track, which experienced a surprise resurgence on TikTok after multiple DJs and influencers incorporated it into their content.

In a post via X, Skales expressed gratitude for the milestone, sharing a screenshot to show the song raking in over a million monthly listeners on Spotify.

“Over a million monthly listeners? God is good … lord I’m grateful,” he wrote.

Capitalizing on the trend, Skales released a DJ remix of ‘Shake Body’ on streaming platforms, a move that quickly paid off.

“This is crazy!! with the momentum of Shakebody trending again I decided to officially release this Dj remix I heard in Europe last year,” he wrote via X.

“And in 10 hours it’s already almost 200k streams with no form of playlist support that’s craaazy … thank you Jesus !!! God indeed works in mysterious ways.”

Yamal is widely regarded as one of the best young footballers in the world.
