Sean Penn, the Hollywood actor and producer, is currently in Ukraine to film a documentary about the invasion of the country by Russian troops.
The Oscar-winning star and longtime humanitarian activist was recently pictured attending a government press conference in Kyiv.
In a video shared on the Ukrainian president’s official Instagram account, the 61-year-old screenwriter was also seen meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“The director came to Kyiv specifically to record all the events taking place in Ukraine and as a documentary filmmaker to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country,” said a post on the meeting which was reported on the Ukrainian presidential office’s Facebook page on Thursday.
“Today, Sean Penn is among those who support Ukraine while being in Ukraine. Our country is grateful to him for such a display of courage and honesty.
“Penn demonstrates the kind of courage that many others, including Western politicians, lack”.
The documentary is being produced by Vice Studios in association with Vice World News and Endeavor Content.
Penn was said to have visited Ukraine in November 2021 for the first time to prepare the documentary, amid tensions between both neighboring countries.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had launched a military invasion of Ukraine.
