Benin City was agog on August 30 as the Mavin-signed singer Rema returned to Edo state for a homecoming concert.

The event which was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, featured riveting performances from both upcoming and renowned artistes.

Hosted by Mcedopikin, a popular Edo-born comedian, the concert kicked off with a powerful set from Rema himself.

Dressed in all black, the singer opened with ‘March Am’, the lead track from his latest album, ‘Heis’.

Throughout the night, Rema treated the crowd to a mix of new and old hits, including ‘Azaman’, ‘Dumebi’, and the globally hit track ‘Calm Down’.

A memorable moment came when a fan presented him with a rose during his performance of ‘Dumebi’, which he graciously accepted.

Joining Rema on stage were several special guests, including Odumodublvck and Shallipopi, who delivered their collaborative tracks ‘War Machine’ and ‘Benin Boys’, respectively.

Shallipopi’s brother, Zerrydl, also joined the stage for a performance of ‘Cast’ with Odumodublvck and Shallipopi.

The Mavin crew was in full force, with Don Jazzy taking the stage to perform ‘Dorobucci’.

Rema also joined other Mavin singers like Magixx, Crayon, and Ladipoe on ‘Won Dan Mo’.

Thizizlondon, the producer behind ‘Calm Down’, joined Rema for a performance of ‘Ozeba’, though the singer kicked a fan off the stage during the performance.

Rema showed his generosity by gifting N2 million to random audience members, including two fans who presented him with artwork.

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo state, praised the singer for embodying the creative spirit and hard work of Edo’s youth.

He said, “Rema defines the creative spirit and instinct of Edo, he defines hope, he defines hard work, he defines creativity, he defines innovation. He defines that can-do spirit that young people of Edo have”.

During his performance of ‘Holiday’, Rema became visibly emotional as he urged the youths of Benin City to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams.
