Michelle Trachtenberg, the American actress known for her roles in ‘Gossip Girl’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, has died at age 39.

The actress was found unresponsive by her mother on Wednesday in an apartment complex.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) also revealed that she was found “unconscious and unresponsive” and pronounced dead by EMS workers.

The cause of death is yet to be disclosed, however, it was reported that Michelle recently underwent liver transplant surgery.

It was also revealed that the actress had struggled with alcohol issues for several years.

Michelle first appeared on television at the age of three in a commercial. She went on to feature in several others before moving into acting.

She however started gaining traction for her role in the ‘Adventures of Pete and Pete’, the Nickelodeon TV series that aired from 1994-1996.

Her big break came after she featured in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ which won her a Young Artist award and earned her three Saturn Awards nominations.

She went on to feature in several movies and series such as: ‘Melissa’, ‘Harriet the Spy’, ‘Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish’, ‘Inspector Gadget’, ‘Can’t Be Heaven’, ‘Cop Out’, ’17 Again’ and ‘Spyral’.

Trachtenberg was born on October 11, 1985, in New York City. She was raised with an older sister Irene in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, where she attended junior high school at The Bay Academy for the Arts and Sciences. She later attended Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California.
