Benson Nana Oduro, the Ghanaian comedian better known as Funny Face, has been arrested by the police for allegedly issuing death threats on social media.

Ghana Police Service (GPS) broke the news in a statement via its Facebook page in the early hours of Tuesday.

The police said it would submit the entertainer to the court to obtain an order allowing the security service to carry out psychiatric examination on him.

According to the police, the psychiatric test is imperative due to the comedian’s past record of mental health issues.

“The police have today, Monday, 18th October, 2021, at 10:14 pm arrested Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face for allegedly threatening certain individuals via some social media platforms,” it read.

“Due to the history of the suspect, the police shall submit Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng to the court for an order for psychiatric examination, to determine the next line of investigative action.

“The police is committed to protecting lives with the generous help of the public. We want to assure the public that we shall not take anything for granted in the interest of public safety.”

Funny Face came into the limelight in 2010. He has continued to pull the strings since then in the Ghanaian entertainment landscape.

The comedian has been in the public eye on several occasions over his penchant for controversies.

Funny Face is said to be having issues in his relationship in the past weeks. This has led him to do all sorts of things, including discharging firearms without authority.

During the weekend, the comedian had also taken to social media to put out a series of video clips wherein he attacked some people.

He had also threatened to allegedly “kill certain people” via his Instagram page.
