Georgina Onuoha, the Nigerian actress, has slammed Eniola Badmus, her colleague, for asking the police to arrest a TikToker.
Last week, a TikTok user known as Ego Okoye was arrested for “falsely accusing” Badmus of being a “professional pimp who connects ladies to politicians”.
During questioning, Ego apologised to Badmus, adding that a friend offered her N200,000 to defame the actress.
Badmus, however, rejected the apology, saying they are both heading to court.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Onuoha said while Ego was wrong, Badmus ought to have first taken the case to court.
She opposed the idea of her colleague getting Ego arrested, arguing that “defamation is not a criminal offense”.
She also slammed Badmus for allegedly intimidating Ego and “abuse of power”.
“What she did was wrong and defamatory. Eniola @eniola_badmus your next line of action will be to sue her for defamation and seek restitution,” she wrote.
“Arresting her means you are equally breaking the law. Slander or defamation is not a criminal offence that warrants arrest and parading this young woman like a criminal.
“This is abuse of power and intimidation on your part. Use the law diligently and not oppressively because of your proximity to power and fame.”
The actress also called out the police, adding that the force should not be used as a “tool of intimidation”.
“@benjaminhundeyin your men should not be engaging in such ineptitude,” she added.
“This is abuse of power and the police should not be used as a weapon of intimidation.
“We are in a democracy and the rule of law must prevail over personal grievances.”
