Last week was eventful in showbiz. TheCable Lifestyle examines the top entertainment news that got tongues wagging in the past seven days.
‘GANGS OF LAGOS’ UNDER FIRE
‘Gangs of Lagos’, the new blockbusting action movie, has come under multiple criticisms since its release on April 7.
The movie tells the tale of a group of friends who have to navigate destiny while growing up on the streets of Lagos.
Although it has received positive reception, the widespread backlash appeared to be due to the depiction of the Eyo masquerade in the film.
The Lagos government condemned the movie, stating that it depicted the state’s culture in a “derogatory manner.”
Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, Lagos commissioner for tourism, arts and culture, said the film is a “mockery of the heritage of the state”.
The commissioner also frowned at Jade Osiberu, the movie director, and Kemi Akindoju, its producer, for insinuating the “Eyo masquerade as a gun-wielding villain while adorning the full traditional regalia.”
In the same vein, the indigenes of Isale Eko threatened to take legal action against the producers of the film for portraying the Eyo masquerade in a “negative light.”
YUL EDOCHIE DELETES ALL INSTAGRAM POSTS
Yul Edochie, the actor, deleted all posts of Judy Austin, his second wife, and their son together on his Instagram page.
In April 2022, Yul announced the arrival of a child with Judy — to the displeasure of May, his first wife.
Edochie also deleted the post he made in April 2022 announcing Judy and their son, including the post celebrating her birthday in January.
The actor, however, retained posts of his first wife on the photo and video-sharing social networking service.
The development comes a few weeks after the death of Kambilichukwu, his eldest son with May.
TIWA SAVAGE ‘KIDNAP’ ATTEMPT
Last Friday, the internet was inundated with reports claiming the singer escaped a kidnap attempt.
The report alleged that the mastermind of the kidnap was her domestic staff.
Tiwa Savage also confirmed that some persons attempted to break into her Lagos residence.
Four suspects were apprehended and are being investigated at the Alagbon police station in Ikoyi.
Tiwa Savage and her family are “safe and well,” a statement from her management read in part.
ACTOR JAMIE FOXX HOSPITALISED
Jamie Foxx, the US actor, was last Tuesday hospitalised following a “medical complication”.
The actor was said to be filming in Atlanta when he took ill and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Corinne Foxx, the actor’s daughter, assured fans that Jamie is on the road to recovery.
“We wanted to share that my father Jamie Foxx experienced a medical complication yesterday,” she wrote.
“Luckily due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”
