The management of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended Desen Jonathan Mbachaga, a lecturer at the institution, for alleged sexual misconduct.
Foluso Ogunmodede, the chief information officer to Abayomi Fasina, the varsity’s vice-chancellor, announced the suspension in a statement.
According to him, the suspension became imperative after a panel set up by the institution to probe the alleged sexual harassment found a prima facie evidence against the lecturer.
Ogunmodede said the suspension was with immediate effect, adding that such would pave way for the committee to thoroughly investigate the allegation.
Until his suspension, Mbachaga was an associate professor in the theatre and media arts department of the institution.
“The Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who has zero-tolerance for indiscipline and any form of sexual harassment against students of the Institution, has consequently approved the suspension of Dr. Mbachaga to allow for proper investigation into the matter,” it read.
Ogunmodede added that the VC has also directed Tajudeen Opoola, the varsity’s faculty of arts dean, to investigate a similiar allegation against another lecturer in the same department with Mbachaga.
“Besides, the VC has also mandated the Dean Faculty of Arts, Prof. Tajudeen Opoola to conduct a proper investigation into another allegation of sexual harassment against another lecture in the same department and submit a report in due time for necessary actions,” it added.
“The current management of the University will do its best to clean the system of all social vices.”
The development comes weeks after the institution sacked Olatunbosun Odusanya, its embattled registrar, over alleged misconduct.
