Funky Mallam, the comedian and Kannywood actor, has expressed frustration over the persistent power outage in the Yaba area of Lagos state.
The movie star took to his Instagram page to lament the severe impact of the power outage, including food spoilage due to the inability to refrigerate and heat discomfort.
He questioned why the activities of the electricity distribution company remain unchecked despite repeated complaints and tariff hikes.
“I’m talking to you now in my area, Alagomeji, Yaba. We haven’t had light for so many days now, and nobody knows what the problem is, although we’ve been having this problem off and on,” he said.
“I think if we are lucky, we will have three or four days’ lights straight on. After that, we go back to square one, and then we start suffering the heat of the moment at the same time. Who is check-mating the activities of these guys? Because we were asked to pay more and more. They’ve been increasing the tariff. And we’ve been paying. But it has never been constant.
“We are suffering. We’ve been facing the heat of the moment every now and then. We’re not enjoying this so-called light revolution. We’re not. If there is any, we’re not enjoying it. For God’s sake.
“We can’t even buy things that can be stored in the fridge because they will get spoiled. We buy things to finish them that day, so you can save money. Why? Because we have a bunch of incompetent people working as neighbours who cannot deliver.”
Mallam appealed to the relevant authorities to urgently investigate the situation in Alagomeji, Yaba.
“And our intelligence, please, extend, employ more people and extend your services. Sometimes you need to infiltrate some certain offices and make up with them as their workers to be able to gather some vital information that will be able to make you to suck some people and go forever,” he added.
“So that things will get better. It is getting too much and it is crippling businesses whether we like it or not.”
