Taylor Swift, US singer and songwriter, has smashed the 24 awards tally previously held by Michael Jackson, late American pop star, at the 2019 edition of American Music Awards (AMAs).

At the event on Sunday, the pop star clinched a total of six honours — which took her tally of awards won to 29 — five more than Jackson’s record.

The 29-year-old vocalist was named ‘Artist of the Decade’ alongside five other major awards in what has been an amazing year for her music career.

In an emotional speech in front of a packed crowd, the singer described the achievements as a “dream come through”.

“This is an award to celebrate a decade of hardwork and fun and memories. All that matters to me is the memories that I have had with you fans over the years…thank you for the being the very reason I am on this stage from the first day of my career up to this night. Thank you for everything. Thank you AMA. I’m so lucky to do this,” she said while receiving the awards.

Swift also took to her social media page to appreciate her fans with a photo of herself flaunting her awards.

“Hi guys have I told you lately that I love you,” she wrote.
