Rogers Ofime, Funke Akindele, and Oga Sabinus were some of the winners at the 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The AMVCA’s eight-day schedule of activities ended with an award night on Saturday.

The movies; ‘Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story’ and ‘Amina’ came top with four AMVCA plaques each.

The ‘Best Director’ award went to Ramsey Nouah for ‘Rattlesnake’ and ‘Best Overall Movie’ to ‘Amina’.

In public voting categories, Stan Nze clinched ‘Best Actor in Drama’ and Osas Ighodaro won ‘Best Actress in Drama’.

First-time AMVCA nominees Broda Shaggi and Omowunmi Dada won ‘Best Actor in a Comedy’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress in a Drama’ respectively.

Rogers Ofime had multiple wins, including ‘Best Television Series for ‘The Mystic River’, ‘Best Indigenous Language Movie’ (Hausa) for ‘Voiceless’, and ‘Best Africa Magic Original Comedy Series’ for ‘The Johnsons’.

Funke Akindele won the ‘Best Actress in a Comedy’ category for ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’.

The regional awards saw ‘Collision Course’ winning ‘Best Movie West Africa’ while ‘The Girl in the Yellow Jumper’ and ‘Hairareb’ won the ‘Best Movie East Africa’ and ‘Best Movie Southern Africa’ respectively.

In the special recognition categories, the AMVCA industry merit award was given to Taiwo Ajai-Lycett (OON), the veteran Nigerian actress, journalist, and television presenter.

The Trailblazer Award, given for outstanding achievement by a young and upcoming act, went to Teni Aladese.
