Naira Marley, controversial street singer, ASUU strike and ‘what is xenophobia’ have topped Google’s 2019 most trending searches in Nigeria.
In a press statement obtained by TheCable Lifestyle on Wednesday, Google listed individuals, songs, topics, questions, and TV shows that topped its ‘Trending Searches of 2019’ analytics.
Marley came ahead of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the PDP at the 2019 elections, to emerge Nigeria’s top trending individual while ‘what is xenophobia’ was the most asked question on the search engine.
Regina Daniels emerged the most searched actor after toppling Genevieve Nnaji, Tonto Dikeh, and Hadiza Gabon, and other Nollywood stars, while Wizkid’s ‘Joro’ was the most searched song.
Google said this year’s top trending news search is ‘ASUU strike’, which took the highest position over other trending news topics like ‘AFCON 2019’ and the ‘Women’s World Cup 2019’.
According to the US multinational tech and internet services company, the entire list offers “a unique perspective on the year’s major moments and top trends based on searches.”
