Burna Boy, the Afro-fusion singer, has bagged four nominations for the 2023 Soul Train Awards.
The ‘Last Last’ hitmaker was nominated in the ‘Best R&B/Soul Male Artiste’, ‘Album of The Year’, ‘Best Collaboration’, and ‘The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award’ categories.
Ayra Starr, the Nigerian singer, and Tyla from South Africa, also made their debut entry into this year’s ‘Best New Artiste’ category.
Summer Walker, SZA, and Usher bagged the most nominations with nine nods.
In a statement on Thursday, Monde Twala, senior vice president and general manager of BET International, described the African nominees as “exceptional”.
“Burna Boy, Ayra Starr and Tyla have been exceptional this year, and their presence on this global stage underlines the transformative impact of African talent on the world of soul music,” Twala said.
“We are proud to have their craft being recognized on this remarkable platform.”
The 2023 Soul Train Awards will premiere on Monday, November 27 at 02:00 a.m. West African time (WAT) on BET Africa, DStv Channel 129.
