‘The Apartment’, a debut movie by Precious Owolabi, a serving corps member, who was killed while on an official assignment for Channels TV, has been released.
Juju Film Studios, a team of filmmakers who happen to be Owolabi’s friends and colleagues, took to Instagram to announce the posthumous release of the movie in actualization of the deceased’s long-held dream.
Owolabi, who is a graduate of the Department of Performing Arts at the University of Ilorin, was said to have teamed up with his friends at the film studio after he couldn’t complete the movie, prior to graduation.
“You all must have seen the news about the Channels Television corps member that died during the Shi’ites protest. Most of you who know me personally know that Precious Owolabi has been a member of my film team Juju Film Studios and also my very good friend,” they wrote on Instagram.
“This news was really hard for me bear and I’m still surprised about it. ‘The Apartment’ was a project by precious Owolabi. He couldn’t finish it in school and it was supposed to be his first film. So I decided to work with the same crew he used in school and some of the casts too.
“I made sure to used his same idea and I tried to make it as original as the previous shot. In conclusion, I have made your dream come true. You’ve been immortalized.”
In June, Owolabi lost his life shortly after he was gunned down while engaging in a news coverage at the scene of the clash between members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), better known as Shiites, and the Nigerian police.
