Frank Farian, the German music producer and founder of Boney M, a former disco band, has passed away at the age of 82.
The legendary producer’s family confirmed his death on Tuesday, saying he passed away “peacefully” at his home in Miami, Florida.
Liz Mitchell, an original singer of Boney M, expressed gratitude for their collaborative work in a Facebook tribute while praying that his soul rests in peace.
“May Frank rest in peace. Our work was blessed and helped the people who had the privilege to hear it,” she wrote.
“We shared and united under a star and rose above and beyond what we dared to expect. I say well done to the work that we did. Rest in peace, Frank Farian.”
Farian, born Franz Reuther in 1941, began his music career as a singer before focusing on producing.
Boney M, initially formed as a pseudonym for his solo work in 1974, achieved international success with hits like ‘Daddy Cool’ and ‘Rivers Of Babylon’.
Farian and the group faced controversy in 1990 when he admitted to using lip-syncing in their recordings, resulting in the revocation of their Grammy award.
During his career spanning decades, Farian won a plethora of awards and recognition for his craft.
In 2022, the producer revealed that he underwent heart valve replacement surgery and spoke about how it saved his life.
Farian is survived by Chinya Onyewenjo, his long-time partner, and his children.
