Seyi Shay, Nigerian singer who’s signed to US-based Island Records, has said female artistes should work as hard as their male counterparts to achieve as much as them.

TheCable Lifestyle recently asked the singer what it would take for female artistes to have equal opportunities in the male-dominated Nigerian music industry.

“Work like a man”, the artiste, whose real name is Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua, answered tersely.

Seyi Shay, who recently released a hit single ‘Airbrush’, also made it known that she enlists the help of other writers to co-write her songs.

She however, noted that the concept of the songs most often originate from her creative process.

“I work with co-writers a lot, but the topic or emotion of the song is always mine. This helps me deliver the song better”, the ‘Murda’ singer said.

Having worked with a wide array of artistes and producers in Nigeria and beyond, Seyi Shay listed some of her best collaborators.

The singer said she enjoyed working with the likes of Solange knowles, Brian Micheal Cox, Mel C, Chipmunk, Beenie Man, Gyptian, Sir George Martin, producer of the Beatles and Johan Miels from Mumford and Sons.

In Nigeria, her favourite collaborators include Femi Kuti, Dbanj, 2face Idibia, Olamide, Wizkid and Sound Sultan.
