The governing council of the Federal University, Wukari in Taraba state, has announced the appointment of Jude Rabo as the new vice-chancellor of the institution.

According to NAN, Laurence Ngbale, chairman of the council, broke the news at a press conference held in Wukari on Thursday.

Ngbale said Rabo, who is a professor of veterinary medicine, emerged as the new VC after scoring the highest points ahead of two other professors that contested for the position.

He said the 59-year-old had served as deputy vice-chancellor of academics at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi for two terms.

Ngbale, who handed the new VC his appointment letter, urged him not only to sustain the development strides recorded by Musa Kundiri, the outgoing VC, but also move the university to a world-class institution.

The development comes as the council also appointed Isa Sidi from Kaduna state as the new university librarian.

In his remarks, the new VC thanked the selection board and the varsity’s governing council for finding him worthy of the appointment.

He assured that he would turn around the fortunes of the institution by setting standards that would move it forward.

Rabo appealed to the council to give him all the support and encouragement required to succeed in his new assignment.

On his part, Kundiri, whose tenure ends on February 10,  urged the university community to give his successor all the support he needed to succeed.

The new VC hails from Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state. He is married with six children.
