‘Fast and the Furious’, the latest instalment in the successful franchise, has broken global box office record to gross an estimated $532.5 million in its opening weekend.

No other movie in history has ever taken in that much in an opening weekend.

The eighth instalment surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ ($528.9 million) and ‘Jurassic World’ ($525.5 million).

The movie took in $100.2 million in North America while it grossed $432.3 million at the international box office.

Hollywood heavyweights, Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, are the main stars in the latest ‘Furious’ film.

Directed by F. Gary Gray, the film also features Charlize Theron, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson and hip-hop star Ludacris.

‘Fate of the Furious’ will have China to thank for a chunk of its haul.

The movie racked up a massive $190 million in the country, setting records for the biggest three-day opening weekend in history and the top debut for a Hollywood film in China.

In Mexico, the movie earned $17.8 million while grossing $17 million in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It racked up $14.1 million in Russia while German audiences paid $13.6 million to watch the flick.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ continued its impressive run, earning $13.6 million in its fifth week – to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide.

The ninth and tenth instalments of ‘Furious’ are planned for release in 2019 and 2021.
