Two budding photographers have earned free training at the New York Film Academy courtesy of the inaugural Fashola Photographic Foundation.
During the launch ceremony of the foundation at City Hall in Lagos, Vivian Nwobi and Kehinde Yusuf emerged winners and runners-up, respectively.
Ysusf and Nwobi were part of 13 finalists who participated in a photography workshop in the build-up to the event.
Some works by the finalists were also exhibited at the event which will now become an annual showcase of young talents in photography.
Nwobi, a lawyer cum photographer, said: “I had no idea I would win. I was in class with 12 amazing photographers and you should see their works. I am super grateful to the foundation and Temple Management Company for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I have never had any sort of formal training in photography. I thank the organizers and Temple Management Company for a wonderful job.”
Fashola, in his remarks, said his dad left a legacy of photography that he, his siblings and their children have carried on with passion and zeal.
“My father represented the fourth generation, I am the fifth and my children the sixth. All of us are lovers of photography,” he said.
Ademola Fashola was born in Lagos in 1933. He was a former advert manager of the Daily Times Newspaper and a pioneer general manager of Times Leisure Services. He was a lover of pictures, and a politician, who passed on at the age of 79 on August 5, 2013.
